Michael Fewer practised architecture, had an academic post in the Dublin School of Architecture for many years, and was a Fellow of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland when he changed direction in the year 2000 to spend more time travelling and writing.
This website has been established to provide some information on his writing work over the past three decades. He has a wide range of interests that he likes to write about, including history, landscape and travel, and he particularly enjoys exploring on foot. He likes to walk in wilderness places, and is more interested in the journey than the height achieved, the distance covered or the speed of travel.
He is also interested in writing about history and architecture, and these subjects take up an increasing amount of his time.
Since his first book was published in 1988, there have been a further twenty books, and since 1993 he has produced more than 400 illustrated magazine and newspaper articles. He has also illustrated books for other authors, written book reviews and was a consultant contributor to the Encyclopaedia of Ireland. He has contributed to a considerable number of radio and television programmes.
He is married to Teresa and has four grown-up children and six grandchildren. He lives most of the year in Dublin, Ireland, but in spring and summer, when not traveling, they divide their time between Dublin and their cottage in County Waterford, on the south coast.
